Martin Dráb came into contact with the dumbbells at the age of thirteen years, but he started with bodybuilding at the age of seventeen. At his first competition at 1991 he occupied 8th place. In 1992, in junior competitions placed 2nd place and third in Moravia. The following year he transferred to the male category.
