Hydration - the most important thing for your activity

People can starve for weeks but they die of thirst after 3 days! The worst thing that may happen to a sportsman is lack of liquids. Organism dehydration (decreased amount of water content in organism) influences sports performance (it makes it worse). Organism dehydration does not negatively influence only endurance type of exercise but also quality of speed and power sports performance.


Drink regularly during activity and prevent unpleasant exhaustion and performance decrease!
If you want to do maximum to maintain performance level and delay the onset of fatigue you have to supply liquids which you lose by sweating during activity. Drinking water during intensive activity and when the outside temperatures are high is not enough. Right drink should contain sufficient amount of minerals which you lose during performance by sweating and also enough carbohydrates which are important source of energy for organism. Drinks which contain minerals and carbohydrates are suitable for your activity as they provide much efficient and more effective organism hydration in comparison with pure water and support thus your performance!

Drink each 15 – 20 minutes of your performance 150 – 350 ml of liquids!

Ion sports drinks = effective organism hydration during exercise
Water supply liquids but it does not contain important carbohydrates and other substances significant for your physical performance.
Sweet mineral waters and juices (contain on contrary very high amount of carbohydrates and that is why they are not suitable for activity since they do not provide organism hydration but the opposite – they make the organism hydration worse and negatively thus influence overall performance.

Organism hydration before activity
Start the activity with fully hydrated organism! Drink hypotonic drink about 2 hours pre-activity. Last drink serving should be consumed about 30 minutes before performance.

Organism hydration after the end of activity
Sportsmen should supply during performance as much liquids as they lose by sweating. As this is usually not possible during exercise, it is important to drink after the end of exercise. After performance you are supposed to supply for up to 150 % of lost liquids. So if you lost during activity about 1 liter of liquids you should supply the body with 1,5 l of liquids during the following two hours post-training. You may use for example UNISPORT.
